Time To Hammer Home Some Classic Asian Action Thrillers!


You know the image…YOU MUST. It’s simply one of the great Asian thrillers of all time: the classic “OLDBOY.”

The scene in the corridor is, for my money, the best action scene ever choreographed – no disrespect to the legendary Bruce Lee! It’s brutal – and all one take! Director Chan-wook Park also directed the classic “Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance”, which I covered here, in my look at some of the world’s most shocking thrillers:


He’s a brilliant film maker, but the beginning of the new age of Asian action began with Director John Woo:


John Woo has directed some great action films, like the terrific “Face/Off” with Nicolas Cage and John Travolta…but THIS is where it all began:


“The Killer” is the greatest action film ever made…and talk about “pulp fiction!” That’s what makes John Woo film so great – the action flows form compelling stories! And of course, there are images like this one:


The opening scene in “Hard Boiled” – the bannister entrance – is another Woo classic…and both films star Chow Yun-Fat, who has never been better…but why am I telling you all this?
