Suzy Kendall’s Got A Killer “Torso!”
Say you are Suzy Kendall…and you just want to get away with some friends – and then THIS GUY shows up to ruin the party:
If that’s the case, then you’d know that it’s “Shocktober” Day #12, and we are looking at the career of Suzy Kendall, who lit up the screen in the late 60’s and early 70’s with some terrific performances!
Kendall broke out big with her prominent role in “To Sir, With Love” in 1967…
In 1970, she starred in Dario Argento’s “giallo” classic “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage”, but it was her 1973 shocker “Torso” that lands her on our “Shocktober” list!
Hard to go wrong with a movie poster tagline like this:
“They were only dolls…stupid dolls made out of flesh and blood!”
This was classic 1973 sexploitation promotion for a classic European thriller about a series of sex murders that shock a college campus.
Here is the original, wildly over the top trailer:
Here’s the plot: four beautiful young girlfriends head for the safety of an isolated country villa. But as they succumb to their own erotic desires, their weekend of pleasure becomes a vacation to dismember at the hands – and blade – of a lecherous maniac!
“Torso” has the look and feel of an Italian “gallo”: a cat-and-mouse thriller as the women are picked off one by one – leaving Suzy to ultimately fend for herself…
“Torso” was directed by Sergio Martino, who also directed the classic exploiter “MOUNTAIN OF THE CANNIBAL GOD”, and thanks to great home video companies, there is a nice Blu-Ray edition of the film now available…
Kendall followed “Torso” with “Tales That Witness Madness” that same year, but soon after left the film business.
In 2012, she appeared in the eerie thriller “Berberian Sound Studio”, credited as “Special Guest Screamer!”
I first discovered Kendall from the classic 1970 action film “Darker Than Amber”:
