Gloria Guida – Italy’s Greatest Export!
If you don’t know Gloria Guida, that’s OK – and I’ll explain why.
My “2020 Sex Kitten Countdown” celebrates the career of a great Actress whose films primarily were shown in her home country of Italy – that said, when a few finally made it to the US, they shocked and entertained cult cinema fans!
Gloria Guida was born in Merano, Italy and modeled as a teen, ultimately becoming Miss Teenage Italia in 1974.
Soon thereafter, Guida began a great run of Italian films across a variety of genres!
One of her first appearances was in the film “La Ragazzina”, ultimately released in the US as “Monika.”
At this time, many great Italian films never made it to the US – even thought these were hugely popular throughout Europe:
Gloria made her real breakthrough in 1975 with “La Liceale” – released around the world as “The Teasers.”
As IMDB.com says about the film:
Guida plays a schoolgirl who takes advantage of her fellow students and teachers by using her innocent schoolgirl beauty. After she loses her virginity to an older man she soon realizes there are more important things to life than teasing men.
Surprisingly, Netflix had this available at one point – so it may be available to stream today.
Gloria was next seen in this Italian sex drama:
That Malicious Age
The poster is in Italian, but when finally shown outside the country, it was also called “That Malicious Age”, and once again Gloria Guida was willing to bare all.
The plot is pure soapy drama: a Gardener at an Italian villa gets embroiled in a menage-a-trois with Gloria Guida and Anita Sanders which soon leads to sex, death and mayhem!
Guida’s most controversial film was “To Be Twenty” in 1978, directed by the legendary Italian Fernando di Leo.
Check out this trailer:
I bought this film because I was a fan of di Leo’s police thrillers, but this is much more than that:
Lia and Tina are two beautiful girls who meet and hitchhike their way to Rome to find Nazariota’s commune, a place to stay for free and have all the sex they want… or so they think.
“To Be Twenty” is a very controversial film, with lots of sexual content and a shocking ending…
The movie was re-cut shortly after the Italian release. The 81-minute version omits the explicit lesbian sex scene between the two main characters, and much of the violent ending – my newly remastered edition puts those elements back, and it’s as shocking today as when it was released…
In 1979, Guida starred in this sex comedy about a private nurse who wasn’t shy about taking care of her patients:
Gloria was very popular at the time, and also appeared on the cover of “PLAYMEN” magazine – I guess you know where the inspiration for that title came from:
Next up was “How to Seduce Your Teacher” – as you can see, Guida was playing the “sex kitten” role in all of her films…but she did so with an infectious energy and great personality – the camera loved her…
There were a number of great European Actresses who weren’t seen as much in the US as they deserved – Barbara Bouchet is another example:
She also appeared in a Fernando di Leo film, the terrific “Caliber 9”, where she did an amazing table dance!
You can see that, and all of her work, by clicking on my story here:
Many great Italian films never made it to the US – although the “Giallo” genre managed to make it overseas…like this classic:
the Italian Giallo genre is filled with terrific films, here are some of the best:
