“There Was A Notch On Her Gun For Every Man She Got!”
What a tagline, and what a pose! Raquel Welch heads up a great cast in this “rape and revenge” western from 1971!
Here is a vintage newspaper ad for the film when it played in Seattle:
Co-stars Ernest Borgnine, Robert Culp and Christopher Lee provide a great supporting cast for this edgy revenge thriller.
Let’s take a look at this gritty western – beginning with the trailer:
Here’s the plot: After she is raped and her husband murdered, a woman hires a bounty hunter to instruct her in the use of a gun so she can get her revenge on the three outlaws responsible.
This film has a raw, grimy feel to it: but once Raquel decides to fight back, it takes off and becomes a satisfying revenge thriller.
As always, Welch is mesmerizing onscreen: the camera certainly loves her, like in this scene where she washes off topless, her back to the camera:
As provocative as she dressed, Welch never did a full nude scene in movies – but she wasn’t afraid to wear some revealing outfits:
As IMDB reports:
Quentin Tarantino has said that this film was one of his inspirations for “Kill Bill”. “Why I love ‘Hannie Caulder’ so much is Robert Culp”, he said, “He is so magnificent in that movie. I actually think there’s a bit of similarity between Sonny Chiba (Shin’ichi Chiba) and Uma Thurman In “Kill Bill” and Raquel Welch and Robert Culp in ‘Hannie Caulder’.”
And as I said, Raquel knew how to pose for the camera:
Welch appeared in a lot of great films – from exploitation to comedy and more:
Here is a look at some of her best films:
