Movie Icon Anita Ekberg! My “2020 Sex Kitten Countdown” Has Her Most Notorious Roles!

Celebrating The Legendary Sex Kitten Anita Ekberg!

My “2020 Sex Kitten Countdown” has focused on a number of Cult Movie Queens who haven’t gotten the recognition they deserve – but here is a very unique “Sex kitten” – Anita Ekberg starred in some very big mainstream films, and only dipped into the exploitation world a few times….but boy, when she did she went all in!

Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg was a Swedish actress who was best known for the classic Federico Fellini film “La Dolce Vita” in 1960.

Throughout the 60’s, she starred in a number of mainstream films with stars like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis and more – but she was also known for her many liaisons with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars as well!

Ekberg had well-publicized romances with Hollywood’s leading men like Frank Sinatra, Tyrone Power, Yul Brynner, Rod Taylor, and Errol Flynn, which made her a gossip magazine favorite!

She was a hugely popular 50s pin-up, appearing in men’s magazines like Playboy.

As you can see, the camera LOVED her.

Ekberg was up for the role of the first Bond girl, Honey Ryder in “Dr. No”, but the role went to the then-unknown Ursula Andress.

But what a “Bond Girl” she would have made!

While she was in many mainstream films, in the 70’s she starred in a couple of notorious sex shockers from Europe, beginning with this one:

“The French Sex Murders”!

This “giallo” thriller is about a prostitute in a French brothel who is murdered, and the prime suspect is one of her regular clients. But after witnesses testify against the suspect, they are killed by someone else.

Here is the trailer:

One of my favorite cult Actresses, Barbara Bouchet, was also in the film:

Ekberg was such an iconic beauty, but she wasn’t afraid to star in some sex shockers as well:

Ekberg ended the 70’s with probably her most notorious film ever:

Ekberg Is The “Killer Nun!”

This shocking Italian “Nunsploitation” film was released in 1979.

Check out the trailer:

The film was originally banned in Britain as a ‘video nasty’ and released with cuts in 1993, but was finally released uncut on DVD in the UK during 2006, after changes in British censorship policy.

Ekberg was a great star, and was in many other films, but these two were her “Euro-sleaze” efforts that made great use of her greatest assets…some of you may remember that I focused on another legendary Actress who made a few notorious exploitation films as well:

Yes, while Helen Mirren may have won an Oscar as “The Queen”, she did a number of provocative films as well – you know, like “Caligula!”
