Want To Fly Some “Very Friendly Skies?”
Of course you do, and for awhile in the 70’s, the skies were filled with “sexy Stewardess” films!
That’s Donna Desmond on the right – a very mysterious “Cult Movie Queen” who was featured in a great cult gem!
It’s my favorite month of the year: for an entire month, the terrific Grindhouse Cinema Database website is showcasing “Deucember” – a month of classic Grindhouse films!
What better place to land than on the terrific genre of Stewardess-sploitation!
It was a staple of the drive-in movie theaters in my hometown – for a good reason!
Let’s begin with the “Citizen Kane” of Stewardess films – in 3D!
I collected movie newspaper ads when I was growing up, and found this one in my collection:
A classic exploitation film – and for only $2! I guarantee my friends and I ultimately saw this at one of Seattle’s drive-in theaters!
Reportedly, the film was made for just over $100,000, and it grossed $25 million – becoming the most profitable 3D film ever released!
Next up, a special edition of the film that took it all the way to XXX!
According to wikipedia:
“In the early days of video, Caballero Control Corporation released a re-edited version of The Stewardesses on VHS and Betamax tape formats, which are now out of print. In creating this XXX version, Caballero edited in hardcore insert shots into the film and re-released it, with the tagline “From 3D to 3XXX” on the tape cover.”
Talk about finding new ways to make more money off a film!
For the next few years, the market was flooded with “Stewardess” movies, like this one!
“Naughty” Stewardesses Indeed!
Fly “first class”, indeed! In case you missed this movie when it came out, the majesty of home video has given you the chance to fly these friendly skies again!
No deep serious drama here, no award acceptance speeches, just classic movie wackiness…and that’s Donna Desmond showing off – she was also a “naughty nurse” in her career, then disappeared – what happened?

Back to our look at the “friendly skies”, what about this tagline?
“See Stewardesses Battle Kung Fu Killers!”
“Fly Me” Indeed!
How can you top this for wild? Not only does this film offer up a kung fu battle, but the other tagline is just as funny:
“This airline serves three wild dishes – take your choice!”
Here’s the trailer for the movies which Shout Factory was wise enough to bring back on DVD!
Yes, this film offers up something that all movie buffs were eager for: a stewardess kung fu battle!
And this next film took a classic 70’s comedy and re-did it – with Stewardesses!
1975’s “Blazing Stewardesses” was directed by the legendary Al Adamson. He combined the titles of the 1975 film “The Naughty Stewardesses” and the classic 1974 comedy “Blazing Saddles.”
This trend wasn’t just limited to US moviemakers – there were sexy stewardesses worldwide!
Yes, the “Stewardess” genre really took off for awhile, and I guess even THIS film fits the genre:
I LOVE the title of this movie!
As you can see, there were a lot of films with sexy Stewardesses, but that was’t the only genre that uncovered sexy women in the workplace:
Yes, there were a ton of “Sexy Nurses” too! Click here to see that list:
