Celebrating The Terrific Cult Movie Career Of Julie K. Smith!
In the 80’s, 90’s and beyond, action films were glossier than ever – and many of our favorite Cult Movie Queens had their best work during this time – starring as empowered women who kicked ass – with our without clothes!
My “2020 Sex Kitten Countdown” looks at the career of Julie K. Smith – from mainstream films to wild camp classics and more!
As you can see, the camera LOVED Julie – whether she was “dressed to kill” or just “chillin'” – and that’s how she came across in her films as well…
Julie K. Smith was born in 1967 – her family was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany, until she was 7 years. As a child, Smith studied acting, and ultimately appeared in a number of mainstream Hollywood films.
She starred in the 1987 comedy “Pretty Smart”, along with Patricia Arquette.

It’s one of those bright, sex comedies about young girls who go overseas to study and have all sorts of misadventures…and Julie steals the film with one very revealing scene:
Julie has appeared in more than 40 films in her career, and was Penthouse’s “Pet of the Month” in February 1993 as well.
Julie Kicks Ass!
One thing I love about Julie is that she was a “kick ass” empowered woman in many of her films.
Julie starred in some classic Andy Sidaris action films in the 90’s, like this one:
“L.E.T.H.A.L. Ladies: Return to Savage Beach!”
The plot of this 1998 action film involves a stolen computer floppy disc filled with information about the location of a mythical treasure on Savage Island. The L.E.T.H.A.L. Agents get caught up in a dangerous treasure hunt.
Check out the trailer:
One of many joys of an Andy Sidaris film is that, while she loved to show off the female form, he also made his characters empowered women who also kicked ass!
In 1996, Smith starred with Julie Strain in “The Day Of The Warrior” – The Agency’s computer database is compromised by a powerful criminal named “The Warrior”. Now, with the list of all the undercover agents’ identities in hand, he is going after them, one by one.

“The Bare Wench Project!”
Listen to this plot summary: four sorority girls with large breasts hike into the wood with their guide “Lunk” to find out the true story behind the Bare Wench. Then they show off their chests following a mangled version of the Blair Witch storyline.
Here’s a short clip to give you an idea of the fun they had making this one:
If there was ever a film tailor-made for a parody, it was “Blair Witch!” Jim Wynorski directed this film, and was the subject of another film that Julie appeared in as well:
Julie was part of this documentary about Wynorski’s wild filmmaking career, a terrific documentary about the filmmaking process, and how they shot “The Witches Of Breastwick” in just three days.
Check out the trailer for this wildly entertaining movie:
I bought this on Amazon Prime – it’s a fascinating look at low budget filmmaking – and the creative visionaries who do it!
Several online biographies state that Julie was in a personal relationship with the Director as well at the time – regardless, they make some very entertaining films together!
According to the documentary “Popatopolis”, Smith announced her retirement from acting in 2005, after the completion of “The Witches of Breastwick”, which you see her acting in during the “Popatopolis” documentary. She is not afraid to have an opinion and stick up for her acting skills!
However, in 2007, she came out of retirement and resumed making films with Wynorski, and cult cinema is all the better for it!
She is also writing and producing as well – so make sure to support all of Julie’s efforts!
Another bit of trivia I found: Julie has a tattoo on her side that says:
“‘Tis better to die on your feet than to have lived on your knees”
That’s a quote from Emiliano Zapata!
Make sure to check out all of Julie’s work, and as I pointed out before, Julie Strain co-starred with Julie in “Day Of The Warrior”:
This Julie also had a great career in cult film, and I highlighted some of her best roles here:
