Celebrating The Films Of Joelle Coeur!
When looking back at some of the great “Cult Movie Queens” of the 70’s, I stumble upon some I don’t know, even if I’ve seen them in films – and Actress Joelle Coeur is one of those!
The Mystery Of Joelle Coeur!
As I share some of her best films, I would have liked to have shared more about her as well…but I can’t find anything!
Who was she? We know that Joelle was a French-born Actress, but little else is known about her!
The IMDB website, usually so thorough, doesn’t even list a date or place of birth and has no other information listed besides her film career in the 70’s – but Joelle kept very busy in those eight years!
Joelle starred in a number of cult gems, many for famed French Director Jean Rollin – before the move into hardcore filmmaking drove her from the business – but not before posing for candid photos like this!
Rollin himself said it was the legalization of hardcore films that would cause Joëlle Coeur to retire – he said the new permissiveness held no interest for her and, as Rollin recalled in “Encores” – The “Demoniacs” booklet:
“She did right to have never taken the plunge.”
While she never ventured into hardcore film as Rollin did, she did show off plenty in the films she did make…
Joelle got her start in the provocatively titled “I Am Frigid…Why?” in 1972.
Coeur was in a lot of films throughout the mid seventies, amassing twenty credits in just four years, in films like these:
Oh, if you don’t know that title, don’t worry – US distributors renamed it with something much easier to understand!
Yes, they chose a very provocative title for this 1973 shocker, about two female hitch-hikers who get mixed up with a gang of thieves and their stolen jewelry.
Up next was one of her notorious starring roles for Jean Rollin – that’s the French poster, and here’s what they called it in the US:
this 1974 film is readily available on Dvd and blu-ray.
Coeur plays Valerie, a beautiful young girl who watches over her cousin’s place while he is away for six months. While a friend is over, members of a crazed sex cult break in and kidnap the friend by mistake!
Joelle also appeared in Rollin’s film about a gang of pirates who rape the two sole survivors of a ship wreck. The violated girls are rescued by the strange inhabitants of a supposedly haunted island, where they are granted supernatural powers to strike revenge against the pirates.

This film has been remastered and released for film buffs to enjoy – Rollin is known for many terrific cult films in the 70’s – more on that later….next up was this Coeur film:
“Seven Women For Satan!”
In this 1976 shocker, the descendant of the original Count Zaroff who leaves his Paris flat every weekend to hunt humans on his isolated estate.

As you can see, the camera loved Joelle, and she was very comfortable baring all onscreen. However, by the end of the decade the sexual content in French films was becoming more graphic, and Rollin says she wasn’t interested…
From there, Joelle’s film career dries up and she disappears…no mention of her anywhere!
As I said, she made several films with Director Jean Rollin, who also filmed with this Adult Star:
Brigitte Lahaie was a hardcore Actress who appeared in some of Rollin’s best films, like this one:
She has had a great career which is still going! Read all about her revealing work by clicking on my story here:
Lahaie isn’t the only actress to move from soft to hardcore films around that time:
Sharon Kelly was in a number of great cult films before performing in hardcore films as Colleen Brennan – see her story here:
