Celebrating The Beauty Of Edy Williams!
In the history of cult cinema, one of the most well known filmmakers is Russ Meyer – and one of his biggest stars – and for awhile his wife – was Edy Williams!
My “2020 Sex Kitten Countdown” is here to remind cult film fans of Cult Movie Queens like Edy, who blazed a bright trail across the exploitation cinema skies!
Williams was born in 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and raised in Southern California. She began her career as a model and beauty pageant contestant, eventually being signed as a “contract player” by 20th Century Fox.
Williams appeared in iconic television series like “The Beverly Hillbillies”, “The Twilight Zone”, “Batman” and “Adam-12” – you know, in a role that called for a pretty girl to do something mindless…but fame was just around the corner:
In 1970, she landed a role in Cult Director Russ Meyer’s first mainstream film, “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls”, followed by his second mainstream film, “The Seven Minutes” the following year.
Meyer and Williams married in 1970, shortly after the release of “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.” Their marriage lasted five years.
In March 1973, she was photographed for Playboy in a full color photo spread by Meyer. He really knew how to creatively capture her natural beauty…
Williams became a hugely popular magazine model, showing up all over the place – here are two examples:
Well, that’s not “fake news” that’s for sure!
Williams continued to appear in films and photos shoots throughout the decade, as the camera really loved her:
I love that shot because it’s the legendary Carlton Hotel in Cannes France behind her!
She was in “Hollywood Hot Tubs”, along with a rising star Jewel Shepard!
Jewel made quite an impression in that film: in fact, she ended up on my “2020 Sex Kitten Countdown” as well, and you can see why by clicking on my story here:
Edy appeared in another film I’ve highlighted here:
Yes, this is the film where Sybil Danning and Linda Blair take a nude shower – in prison of course! You can see it by clicking on my story here:
Edy ultimately had more than 50 acting credits in her career, but here’s her strangest role:
“The People’s Court?!?!”
Well, here she is nude because I can’t find a photo but listen to this: in 1982, Edy appeared on an episode of “The People’s Court” as a defendant in a case titled “The Star Who Wouldn’t Pay”. She was sued for payment for publicity work the plaintiff had done for her. She counter-sued for half of the retainer she’d paid him.
No word on who won, but at this point, her career drifted downward and she worked sporadically.
Bravo to Edy Williams for a terrific career and lots f stunning photos – many thanks to her husband Russ Meyer…you remember his specialty:
He loved his Actresses, and if you click here you can see some of his most notorious work:
