Celebrating The Sexy Career Of Tanya Roberts!
My latest “2020 Sex Kitten Countdown” highlights the mainstream TV – and wild cult film career – of Model-turned-Actress Tanya Roberts!
Tanya came from modest beginnings in the Bronx, New York, and had a wild teenage life. She dropped out of high school at age 15, got married and hitchhiked around the country until her mother-in-law had the marriage annulled!
Next, she married someone else and supported herself as an Arthur Murray dance instructor and by modeling. She appeared in television commercials for Ultra Brite, Clairol and Cool Ray sunglasses.
Time To Head To Hollywood!
Based on her modeling success, Tanya headed to Hollywood, and in 1976 made her film debut in “The Last Victim”, which was also known as “Forced Entry.”
That same year, she appeared in “The Yum Yum Girls”!
The plot was simple, and mirrored Tanya’s life: a young woman goes to New York in order to work as model but in the big city she finds a world she did not expect…
After appearing in several minor films, her first big break came when she stepped into an iconic role on a smash TV series:
Tanya was selected as an “Angel” for “Charlie’s Angels” in 1976 for its final season, and from there it was a career of TV shows, cult films, and of course, a Playboy cover!
Roberts was well aware of the power of TV, film and magazines. She appeared in TV shows and cult thriller like this:
The 1979 shocker “Tourist Trap” follows a group of young people who stumble upon a roadside museum housing mannequins that wield supernatural powers!
She went into all genres, and really knew how to please her fans, as she said in an interview:
“Fans make you. I certainly hope that people like me in the work and I appreciate every letter that I get. I’m glad they like me or else I wouldn’t be in the business. But for fans it’s a very different reality than it is for me. They’re going to watch the finished product, which has taken us five months and a lot of hard work . . . I mean, I’ve been choking for the last three days on smoke–it’s not very glamorous. It’s not what it looks like in the movie, I’m on my knees, bruised half the time, it’s action, action, action.”
You may be wondering why Tanya is shooting with so many wild animals…well, her next film might be a giveaway:
Roberts starred with Marc Singer in his hugely successful 1982 action film, a sword-and-sorcery fantasy about a young man’s search for revenge.
Check out the trailer:
This popular action film gave Tanya lots to do, with action and some revealing sex scenes as well:
Tanya was on a roll, and it was time for another very successful fantasy film – but this time, Tanya stepped up to take the lead role!
This 1984 action-adventure gave her a chance to shine – here’s a short TV trailer:
Her’s the plot: Sheena grew up in the African wild, raised by a mystical witch woman. When her foster mother is framed for a murder Sheena is forced to flee, helped by her ability to talk to animals and her knowledge of the jungle.
Of course, you have to stay clean, even in a jungle, so the film gives us plenty to enjoy as “Sheena” showers in a waterfall!
Next up, Tanya a scored another huge role when she became a “Bond girl” in Roger Moore’s last outing as 007:
“A View to a Kill”
It wasn’t a good film, but Tanya seemed to be having a blast – and Christopher Walken is the bad guy – check out the trailer:
She was a gorgeous “Bond girl”, and here is what she said about being in the film:
“I sort of felt like every girl who’d ever been a Bond Girl had seen their career go nowhere, so I was a little cautious. I remember I said to my agent, “No one works after they get a Bond movie” and they said to me, “Are you kidding? Glenn Close would do it if she could.” And I thought to myself, “Well, you can have regrets if you wish, but what’s the point?” At the time I didn’t know what I know now, and to be honest, who would turn that role down, really? Nobody would. All you have to think to yourself is, “Could have I been better in the part?” That’s all you can say to yourself because turning the part down would have been ridiculous, you know? I mean nobody would do that, nobody. I was very young and I did what I felt was the right choice to make.”
Even with her fear of the “Bond girl” curse, she continued to appear in films, with more than forty screens credits.
Sins Of Desire!
In the late 80’s and 90’s, Tanya began appearing in erotic thrillers, many of which went straight to video or late night pay cable.
In this one, she plays Kay Egan, who goes undercover to work in a suspicious sex clinic where her sister went to therapy before killing herself!
Well, how can you argue with that?
As you can see, Roberts was making a slew of “skinamax” type films, with moody 90’s lighting and lots of nudity.
You get the idea, lots of opportunities its to take off her clothes:
Roberts seemed willing to be the femme fatale in these erotic direct-to-cable thrillers, so nothing wrong with that!
These films were very popular in the 90’s of course, and you know where they got their start?
Yes, it all began when Sharon Stone crossed her legs with no underwear on – and the cult genre of “skinamax” was born!
You can click here to how how it all began:
For Roberts, she continued to work for decades, crossing between erotic low-budget films and TV shows:
Tanya had a recurring lead role in the television series “That ’70s Show” beginning in 1998, and still acts today.
Bravo to her on a great career…and for being one of the most beautiful “Bond girls” of all…remember the first one?
Ursula Andress was the very first “Bond girl” – and did you know her nickname was Ursula “UNDRESS?”
She also posed for Playboy and bared all in a variety of 70’s shockers…see more about her here:
Another 80’s “Bond girl” also married a Beatle!
As you can see, posing nude was no barrier to working with 007…see more about Barara Bach’s wild career by clicking on my story here:
