The Wild Life And Mysterious Death Of Kandi Barbour!
The adult entertainment industry is filled with stories of Actresses who became famous before disappearing from the public eye – and meeting a tragic end, and sadly that’s the story of Kandi Barbour as well.
It all began when my Facebook friend Angel shared this poster!
I had not heard of the film or of Kandi, but Angel suggested I look into her career and her life – and he was right: it’s fascinating and troubling as well!
Kandi Barbour was born Kandie Lou Dotson in 1959 in Russellville, Alabama. She went to school there and by all accounts had a normal life as she grew up.
As was the case with so many other beautiful young women, Kandi was discovered by photographer Diana Hardy in the 70’s – and soon was posing for men’s magazines like these:
As you can see, the camera loved Kandi, and she modeled for a wide variety of publications before ending up acting in adult films…
Barbour started performing in explicit films in her late teens; ultimately, she appeared in over 30 X-rated features before retiring from the business in 1984.
Among her films was “The Pink Ladies”, also starring Samantha Fox.
Vinegar Syndrome has this film available.
Kandi appeared in adult films and worked as an exotic dancer as well, but also modeled in ads and appeared in TV commercials for the music company K-tel International!
Barbour lived in both Los Angeles, California and Hawaii, where she worked at the famous Honolulu strip club Club Hubba Hubba. She was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame in 2009.
Kandi’s Shocking Death!
Kandi’s story takes a shocking turn at this point.
The Actress was discovered dead from exposure on the streets of San Francisco, California on January 18, 2012.
Barbour had been homeless and living on the streets of San Francisco at the time of her death. Because no one claimed the body in a timely manner, she was donated to a local university for medical science. She was later cremated, and her ashes scattered into the San Fransisco Bay!
I have been unable to find out what happened to her, and how she ended up destitute, but it’s a sad end for an Actress and Model who achieved her dreams and then have them shattered.
Kandi was inducted posthumously into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2013.
Sadly, Kandi isn’t the only adult film star to meet a tragic end…remember Rene Bond?
Rene starred in cult films of all kinds, but also had a tragic end…you can see that story here:
And what about the story of Shauna Grant?
This hugely popular adult film star killed herself! You can find out more about this mysterious death by clicking on mystery story here:
