Celebrating Valerie Leon’s Cult Career!
I came across a classic Hammer horror film from the early 70’s and was mesmerized by the star, Valerie Leon!
Since it’s Halloween season, “Shocktober 2022” highlights this Cult Movie Queen and some of her most shocking performances in classic Halloween favorites!
This British Actress got her start as a chorus girl – and appeared with Barbra Streisand in “Funny Girl” at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London’s West End – not a bad start to the business!
She appeared in the film “Zeta One” in 1969, but it was in the 1971 Hammer horror film “Blood From The Mummy’s Tomb” that she really became a star!
Leon had a dual starring role, as a reincarnated Egyptian queen.
Here is the IMDB summary of the film:
An archaeological expedition brings back to London the coffin of an Egyptian queen known for her magical powers. Her spirit returns in the form of a young girl and strange things start to happen.
The film was one of Hammer’s great 70’s films that offered a more erotic take on traditional horror…check out the vintage movie trailer:
Hammer horror films from this era hold up well…historical horror with plenty of moderns touches like nudity and blood, which were unusual for traditional British horror at the time…
These vintage posters showcase the gothic nature of the film – and Leon was absolutely mesmerizing on screen, and look at these costumes!
Leon was much more than a horror Goddess, however – she also appeared in a number of sex comedy in the 70’s as well:
As you can see, being 5’11” gave her a chance to tower over the men in her films, but she also had no problem posing for some provocative pictures as well:
She also appeared in the British sex comedy “Can You Keep It Up For A Week?” The film was one of those “nudge nudge wink wink” films that the British seemed to love in the 70’s…

Probably one of her most adventurous films was this one – yes, her motion picture debut:
Also known as “The Love Factor”, which film involved a race of sexy women from Angvia, a planet in another dimension, who come to earth to kidnap women to repopulate their planet.
And they are dressed like this!
Well, consider me conquered!
Check out the trailer:
As you can see, this film allowed the entire cast to dress up in some very revealing outfits, and Valerie fills it out very well!
Leon had such a great career – did you know she was a “Bond girl” TWICE?

Valerie was ‘hot stuff’ here back then. She was in some forgettably awful films, but always the best thing to look at on screen.
Best wishes, Pete.

Yes Pete…these are NOT the “Citizen Kanes” of their time to be sure! Hope all is well and you are fully recovered from what ailed you!

Thanks, John. Other than some annoying ‘faigue’, it has passed now.

Did you notice in the movie Zeta One, the name of the planet “Angvia” is an anagram of the word “vagina”?
