Celebrating the Life Of Italian Sex Kitten Laura Antonelli!
As we head into 2021, the “Sex Kitten Countdown” continues to highlight great Cult Movie Queens who have made our cinematic world better!
Laura Antonelli was born on November 28, 1941 in Pola, Istria, Italy as Laura Antonaz.
Growing up in Italy, Laura started her professional life as a high school physical education teacher, then a math teacher.
Then, movies called, and in the late 60’s she appeared in minor roles before becoming a star with a string of Italian sex comedies, beginning with this breakout role:
“The X-Rated Girl!”
This is the US poster for this 1971 sex comedy – here’s the original:
That original poster reveals the film’s wacky plot: a frustrated musician makes a career out of his wife’s beautiful body!
These Italian sex comedies were very popular, and this one made Laura a star!
Antonelli got great reviews at the time…as one online review I found says about her role:
“There can be no denying the script relies heavily on the typical sexy commedia all’italiana” ingredients – frivolous dialogs and female nudity packed in funny and awkward situations. And oh boy, this film delivers plenty of that. Or let’s say, Laura delivers plenty of that. She is a feast for the eyes!”
And guess what? This is currently available on Amazon Prime! Yes, you can see her breakout role right now!
Next up was a film that was very controversial at the time of release:
This 1972 film was also known as “The Senator Likes Women…” This comedy was directed by Lucio Fulci, who also had a huge career in horror with films like “A Lizard In A Woman’s Skin” and “The New York Ripper”.
The film had censorship problems and was banned shortly after its release – finally seeing the light of day in a heavily censored version.
But that didn’t stop Laura, who was next seen in this film:
This 1973 Italian film gave Laura many more opportunities to showcase her natural beauty – as she was becoming more and more famous in her country:
Laura was on a roll, as she appeared the same year in this sex comedy:
“How Funny Can Sex Be?”
As always, the Italian title was jettisoned in the US:
Still, it gave Laura a chance to showcase her body once again:
Laura was also featured in Playboy as many of the Actresses of the time were, and as you can see, the camera LOVED HER:
In 1974, she bared all in the film “Till Marriage Do Us Part”.
This 1976 film was critically acclaimed and once again gave Antonelli a great showcase – in a film that was also a great acting challenge:
Ultimately, Laura Antonelli appeared in more than 40 films and Tv shows in her career. But later, she was embroiled in a scandal that threatened to send her to prison!
In 1991, Antonelli faced legal troubles when more than 30 grams (one ounce) of cocaine was found at her home.
She was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for drug dealing, but was eventually acquitted in 2000 by Rome’s court of appeals.
The battle to overturn those charges ultimately took ten years!
Sadly, Laura died in 2015 of a heart attack in Rome. She left us with a number of terrific films and was always willing to bare all for art!
Antonelli’s not the only Sex Kitten who has had run-ins with the law:
Serena Grandi also had trouble with the law in Italy, fighting drug charges at one point in her controversial career!
