Playmate/Actress India Allen! This “Rowdy Girl” Starred With Julie Strain And Ended Up In “The Crapper!”

Celebrating Playmate Of The Year India Allen!

Whenever I come across a film with an interesting cast, a little digging ultimately revealed another Cult Movie Queen – like India Allen, who starred in films with Julie Strain, Shannon Tweed and more!

India Allen was born on June 1, 1965 in Portsmouth, Virginia as India Juliana Orban.

Allen was encouraged by her mother when she turned eighteen to pursue modeling while also going to college – and lucky for us, she followed Mom’s advice!

She began modeling, and when she was 22, fame came calling thanks to Playboy!

India was chosen as Playboy’s Playmate of the Month in December 1987 – and you can see why from these photos…

An even greater honor awaited India – she was chosen as The Playmate of the Year for 1988!

India then moved into acting, and ultimately made a dozen film appearances, beginning in 1990 in “Under Crystal Lake”, then this erotic drama:

“Wild Cactus”

During a desert retreat, a married couple cross paths with a murderous ex-convict and his partner in crime.

She appeared in the erotic thriller “Silk Degrees” in 1994, the same year she got involved in the OJ Simpson Murder Trial – she was a close friend of Nicole Brown Simpson…

In 2002, India produced and co-wrote “India Allen’s The Rowdy Girls”, which was released by Troma studios.

Danger, deceit and dust. The Wild West of 1886 is no place for a woman, but it’s the perfect place for “The Rowdy Girls”, fabulous females fighting for fortune and freedom on the frontier.

Bravo to Allen for transitioning to producing – and the reviews for this film are pretty good!

Yes, Shannon Tweed was in this one as well!

This Playmate turned Actress had a great career and you can see it all here:

In 2004, she appeared in the Troma film “Tales From The Crapper”, playing Sally Sterks – Heavy Set Tromaville Anchor…but as the DVD shows, this was a troubled shoot…

Here’s what IMDB says about the film, and the fallout between Allen and Troma – I was under the impression that Allen produced this spoof of “Tales From The Crypt”, but either way, the behind-the-scenes story got ugly:

“Originally shot as two DV films starring Julie Strain and directed by India Allen. Lloyd Kaufman had a dispute with Allen and sued her over the productions after they wrapped. Allen later counter-sued, citing breach of contract, slander per se, sexual harassment, trade slander, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The only way the Troma Team could salvage these films was to shoot extra scenes and turn the two features into an anthology film.”

As it says, “Crapper” starred Julie Strain, who was in “Rowdy Girls” as well, and the “behind-the-scenes” documentary included on the DVD has a lot of vitriol directed India’s way…her side of the story isn’t included, so we’ll have to assume that whatever happened as a result of those lawsuits is all we’ll ever hear.

India Allen is an uncredited Executive Producer according to IMDB, but wikipedia also reports:

“After more than a year of production, Troma received the footage that was shot and it was unwatchable. In some cases, there was missing sound, the camera-work seemed unprofessional. All of the episodes were unfinished. Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz were even more displeased when they found out that the entire budget was gone. In order to salvage the project, Lloyd Kaufman got former Troma alumni to re-work the script and find new uses for the footage shot. In 2003, re-shooting began both in Los Angeles and New York with Kaufman overseeing production.”

Well, I own this film on DVD and it’s got a feature-length documentary included about what they call the “chaotic” re-shoot.

It also has a “tour” of Julie’s house, given by the Actress while mostly naked! There’s also a feature-length commentary track with Julie Strain as well! I need to go back and listen to this!

Sadly, Strain died this year, but you can read all about her incredible career by clicking on my story here:

As for Allen, this is her last credit. It’s a shame that it ended on such a down note, because she had a great cult career!

India is one of many Playmates I’ve profiled, like one of the most voluptuous of all:

Janet Lupo was Playmate Of The Month in November 1975 – she didn’t have lengthy career in entertainment, but she was a stunner and you can see her entire story here:

She reminded me of another Model:

Roberta Pedon was an equally voluptuous Model and if you want to see more of her career, click my story here:

I also shared this story of “the most photographed nude in America”:

June Wilkinson was stunningly beautiful, and you can see more of her story here:
