Sexy “Bee Girl” Anitra Ford! Her Wild Cult Career From “Big Bird Cage” To “Price Is Right!” My 2021 Sex Kitten Countdown” Has This “Messiah Of Evil!”

Celebrating The Cult Movie Queen Anitra Ford!

When taking a dive into some of the classic cult films on an earlier generation, I am always excited to discover an Actress who had a great career in some cult gems – and that’s Anitra Ford!

My “2021 Sex Kitten Countdown” looks at her career in cult films – and as a “Barker’s Beauty!”

Anitra Ford was born as Anitra Joy Weinstein in 1942 in California.

Anitra began her career in the 60s as a Model, and made her film debut with a small, uncredited role in “The Love Machine.”

However, she made a big splash soon after in the cult “women in prison” film “The Big Bird Cage!”

What a chance to shine! You know the drill: young beautiful women are imprisoned, and tensions always boil over into lots of catfights before the prisoners fight back and escape – well, after a few lengthy showers:

Ford was the sassy, free-spirited nymphomaniac in Cult Director Jack Hill’s drive-in classic – here is the trailer:

Oh yeah, Pam Grier also appeared in the film – and she rocks as an evil Guard who finally gets her in the end:

Grier appeared in a number of these cult gems, like “Black Mama White Mama” hewer she got to share a shower with Margaret Markov:

You can see more of Pam’s incredible cult career, along with many of the film trailers and lots of shower shots by clicking on my story here:

Next up for Anitra was the terrific drive-in classic “Invasion of the Bee Girls!”

I have shared this film before, because it’s a fascinating cult gem! A group of women do exactly what this poster says they do, led by a Mad Scientist, played by Ford!

This is currently on Amazon Prime where I saw it – check out the trailer:

Cult Actress Victoria Vetri also starred in this film, and was the recipient of a wacky and wet experiment!

That’s Anitra doing the mud rub not he right…sadly Vetri’s career went off the rails and she ended up in prison!

Next up for Ford was the offbeat horror shocker “Messiah of Evil.”

Check out this moody and very effective trailer:

Ford had a nice run of cult appearance and was never shy about her on camera work:

She also had a run in mainstream films at that time like “The Longest Yard” with Burt Reynolds, but Anitra achieved her greatest enduring popularity as one of host Bob Barker’s beauties on the game show “The Price Is Right!”

Anitra transitioned to TV roles in such popular 70’s shows as “Starsky & Hutch”, “Streets Of San Francisco” and “SWAT” before retiring from the entertainment business in the late 70’s and going to work in real estate.

Anitra Ford is now a published Poet, Photographer and Artist – whose work has been displayed in various galleries in Santa Barbara, California.

I’m excited to see how successful her career was – it reminds me of another 70’s Cult Movie Queen:

Susan George was in the provocative “Straw Dogs” and the drive-in classic “Dirty Mary Crazy Larry” as well as many more great 70’s films!

  2. They showed ‘Invasion of The Bee Girls’ as a late night ‘oddity’ on Film 4 here. What a crazy film. I didn’t know whether to laugh at it, or give it a round of applause. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. I discovered Anitra Ford in Messiah of Evil. It rapidly became one of my favorite horror movies. I showed it to a friend once, and a month later she was complaining to me that she was still freaked out.
