Meet Barbara Mills!
A Facebook friend, Joe Wawrzyniak, asked me to research Barbara Mills AKA Barbara Caron – and he chose a winner!
My “2021 Sex Kitten Countdown” has her wild career in sexploitation cinema!
Mills was born in 1951 in Massachusetts.
Mills left home and moved to the bohemian artistic community of Venice Beach, California shortly after turning seventeen. Barbara established permanent roots in Venice Beach in the late 1960’s.
Imagine what that was like – the “summer of love!”
That’s Barbara on the right. Mills started doing nude modeling on the side while attending college as an art major (she specialized in paintings).
Barbara made her first screen appearance in the classic 3D X-rated romp “The Stewardesses” in 1969:
She acted under various names such as Barbara Caron and Gabriella Caron, when she played a character named Gabriella in the film called – you guessed it:
Wait – what?
Well, her credits call it one thing, but it was released widely as “Class Of ’74” and remember who I highlighted from the film?
Sandra Currie had a great cult film career and you can see it here:
Oh, and guess what? Currie and Mills also appeared together in this cult gem in 1971:
What a classic slice of sexploitation!
You know the drill: innocent young women abused and degraded in jail:
Barbara went on to star in two films from 1972:
“Fire In Her Bed” was followed by “Blue Money”, as provocative, adult film about Jim, who appears to have it all: he’s married to the beautiful and supportive Lisa, has a healthy baby, and works a cool gig as the director of hardcore porno fare.
One of her most explicit films co-starred an Actress that I reached out for a while to figure out who she was!
I came across Linda York when I saw an obscure film called “Sweet Trash” – and it turns out she had a torrid sex scene with Mills in the film “The Love Garden!”
First, take a moment to enjoy that classic cult film poster!
Now, onto her co-star in the film, who was a bit of an obsession of mine:
Yes, that’s Linda – and that’s Barbara – and they were indeed hot and heavy for each other in the movie!
Lucky for cult film fans, Vinegar Syndrome has this film as part of a double bill with “The Suckers” – more on that film in a minute, but first – I shared this tory of Linda York and her very nude performance in “Sweet Trash” – but the film had no credits!
Here’s how I tracked her down:
Back to Barbara: Mills appeared in “Sweet Georgia” in 1972. The film is the perfect drive-in movie, because it had lots of sex, violence and nudity:
Sweet Georgia is the sex-crazed nympho wife of the brutal rancher, Big T. Unfortunately, Big T is an ugly, abusive drunk, and Georgia looks for love elsewhere.
I featured this film when I shared the story of Marsha Jordan:
She Wass the “Queen Of Software”, and what a wild ride she had!
Click here to see her entire story:
She was also in the 1972 sexploitation film “The Suckers!” – mentioned earlier!
A rich and powerful big-game hunter tires of tracking and killing animals, and gets an idea–he will invite the owners of a model agency he knows and two of their models to be guests on his estate for the weekend, and use them as the objects of his latest hunt.
As you can see, Mills fit right in with the grittier elements of 70’s cult cinema: these low budget, X-rated films were perfect drive-in fodder:
Mills had a string of X-rated films, nothing too explicit, just lots of full nudity and sexual situations:
Ultimately, Mills had more than 40 screen credits across film and TV.
I also found a treasure trove of black and white nudes of her as well:
She left the business after a string of small roles in film and TV throughout the 70’s and 80’s, but she had no regrets. As she said:
“When I remember my former work in films, I believe we left behind a really free spirit. We weren’t condemned for what we did. We were sometimes greatly appreciated for our work. It was interesting. It was an innocent time, it wasn’t considered real.”
After leaving the business, Barbara was a painter…sadly, she died in 2010 at age 59 in Ko Samui, Thailand.
She reminds me of a number of 70’s Sex Kittens who worked in film but never got the recognition they deserved:
Donna Desmond appeared in a number of sexploitation films, not always under her own name – and you can see her best work by clicking on my story here:
