Talk About “Thinking Big!”
First, big thanks to Daniel, who emailed me with this story idea…because it led me to write this celebration of a lesser-known Cult Movie Queen who was also a HUGE Model!
Discovering Joyce Mandel!
My “2021 Sex Kitten Countdown” highlights an Actress you may not even know that you know – because I have seen her in several cult films and didn’t even know it!
Joyce Mandel was born on March 10, 1950 in Los Angeles, California. Her biography is very light, so all I know for sure is that, in her early 20’s, she began a successful career doing nude photo shoots like this one:
Joyce was also a Cult Actress who appeared in a wide variety of roles, from TV shows like “Mork & Mindy” in 1978 to a few wild cult films as well!
“Street Of A Thousand Pleasures!”
How’s this for a credit? Joyce is listed as “Slave Girl with Goblet” – using the name Joyce Gibson – she will use that name in a few other films as well.
I actually own this 1972 “film”, which isn’t a movie as much as it is a series of short scenes with young women disrobing for a guy who is supposedly walking down a street where young women disrobe!
Yes, that’s Uschi Digard in the lower right – she’s one of the countless women who were paid to dance and pose naked in this “movie” – of course, you know that Digard was in so many more classics, and you can see her most revealing credits here:
Joyce had an uncredited role as the “girl in bathtub” in the dismal 1975 comedy “Linda Lovelace For President” – a really lame attempt to capitalize on Linda’s success…

As for Joyce, she used her Gibson name for the 1975 film “Wham Bam Thank You Spaceman!”

Did you notice Dyanne Thorne’s name on that last film? Well, guess what? She also appeared in this film with Joyce:
“Ilsa, Harem Keeper Of The Oil Sheiks!”
Yes, Mandel was one of the slave girls in this “Ilsa” roughie – and of course Thorne WAS “Ilsa!”

Mandel never got a starring role, but she worked steadily – she also appeared in this offbeat cult classic:

Joyce ended up doing TV parts and small, uncredited roles in “Airplane!” and “Weird Science” before drifting out of the business.
She continued to do nude modeling as an older woman. Her last credit was in 2001 – credited as Alexis Love for a video titled “Return Of The Ultra Vixens!”
Joyce had a hugely popular Pin-up Modeling career, beginning in the late ’60s – and was credited as “Rinah” in men’s magazines in the late ’70s:
And then again as I said, credited as Alexis Love, “the ultimate older woman”, in the ’90s.
Sadly, Mandel died on October 13, 2016 in Los Angeles. No cause of death was given…

I know I’m a little late , but what great background information on her. I’ve seen this one picture of her with leg warmers on staring downward a number of times and finally did an image look up and found this article about this woman.
She was beautiful for sure , had a steady career and never got top billing . This goes to show how saturated the industry was and is . She was gorgeous and never took center stage . At least we got the opportunity to experience her anyway.
