The “Shockingly Naked” Marie Dévereux! My “2021 Sex Kitten Countdown” Has This Vintage Pin-Up Model And “Bride Of Dracula”!

Celebrating A Legendary Pin-Up Model And Cult Movie Queen!

I’m always fascinated by exploitation cinema – there are so many different types, from erotic horror, to thriller, ribald sex comedies, and of course, those early examples where more of promised than ever delivered.

My “2021 Sex Kitten Countdown” highlights empowered women in those cult films – from the 60’s through the modern, social media era.

I came across this photo of an Actress and wondered: who was she, and what sort of career did she have?

Well, I found Marie Devereux, who had a provocative cult film career – and was one of the most popular pin-up Models of a bygone era as well!

Born Patricia Sutcliffe in London England in 1940, Marie was born to be in front of audiences – in fact, she performed nude on stage while still in her late teens – and “Marie Devereux” was born!

Marie became a highly sought-after nude model – at a time when doing such work was potentially risky, due to stringent censorship laws!

She was hugely popular, and of course, the movies came calling!

Her film and TV career crossed over into all genres, but how about this Hammer horror gem:

Marie Was A “Hammer Glamour Queen!”

Marie was cast in the Hammer horror classic “Brides Of Dracula” in 1960.

Check out the trailer:

It’s a classic Hammer plot line: Vampire hunter Van Helsing returns to Transylvania to destroy handsome bloodsucker Baron Meinster, who has designs on a beautiful young schoolteacher.

With that, Marie was a “Hammer Glamour Queen” and boy did she fit the bill!

Marie’s career as a Pin-Up Model flourished as well – there are books filled with stunning photos of her work – note they spell her name with an “A”, but all of her bio information is spelled the way I do:

Do you notice a strong resemblance to Elizabeth Taylor?

Well, that came in handy, as she was hired to travel to Italy to work as Elizabeth Taylor’s stand-in for the 1963 film “Cleopatra”!

Devereux then went to Hollywood and appeared in two gritty thrillers:

“Shock Corridor!”

This 1963 film was directed by the legendary Samuel Fuller – this was very edgy stuff for its time!

Check out the trailer:

This is a terrific film, about a journalist who goes undercover in a mental institution to solve a murder…Marie’s one of the patients, and does a great job – a really great cult film!

Next up, another terrific gem:

“The Naked Kiss”

In this 1964 shocker, also directed by Fuller, a woman witnesses a shocking event, which threatens her mental health.

Check out the trailer:

After these roles she decided to marry and have children in the United States, and retired from films.

She was a beautiful Model and had a nice run in cult film.

Sadly, she died at the end of 2019.

Marie’s career reminds me of another legendary Pin-Up Model:

Jayne Mansfield had a very provocative career, and a tragic death as well…you can see all of her by clicking on my story here:

Here’s another legend who is still alive and very active on social media!

Mamie Van Doren is one of the all-time greats, and you can see the best of her work here:

There have been so many Cult Movie Queens of that era – and some ere willing to utilize all of their assets:

Chesty Morgan was also a Pin-Up Model and Actress as well – check out her wild cult film career here:
