The Wild Story Of Andrea True! From XXX-Rated Stardom To #1 Disco Hit!

“I want to be remembered as someone who brought people joy with my music.”

Those words are from Andrea True, who left behind the best-selling song “More, More, More!” and a wild XXX-rated acting career as well!

Celebrating the Wild Life Of An Adult Film Star And Disco Queen!

They are two categories of entertainment that rarely crossed over: music and XXX-rated films – but thanks to Andrea True, they did in explosive fashion!

My “2021 Sex Kitten Countdown” has the story of an adult film star who also went to the top of the music charts!

She was born Andrea Marie Truden in Nashville,, Tennessee in 1943.

Andrea headed to New York in her 20’s to become an Actress, but only managed to find work as an extra in films like “The Way We Were” and “40 Carats.”

As a result, she took an acting detour and went into adult films and amassed more than 50 credits – with films like these:

Note that the iconic Linda Lovelace and Johnny Wadd were also in that film, and Andrea would star again with Linda in this sequel:

“Deep Throat Part II”

It was the sequel to the biggest XXX-hit of all time; a film that changed the world of adult film forever.

The Star, Linda Lovelace, had a fascinating, troubled and ultimately sad life and untimely death – you can click here to see more of her story and the provocative bio-pic made with Amanda Seyfried:

As for Andrea, she kept on truckin’ with more films like these:

I mean, look at that poster!

She also had a string of “super 8 loops” you could buy to watch at home!

I also found this great ad for a personal appearance by the Actress:

But she wasn’t an Exotic Dancer – no, she was the Singer of one of the Disco era’s biggest hits!

“More, More More” Indeed!

Yes, Andrea had one of the biggest hits of the 70’s – the wildly successful disco hit “More, More, More”!

First, here’s a very early music video for the song – bad quality but vintage to say the least!

So how did a XXX-rated Actress go to the top of the Disco charts?

Well, here’s the story according to the great website IMDB.com:

“She had been writing music for TV commercials and singing in various clubs around New York City, and obtained an assignment on the Caribbean island of Jamaica to shoot commercials for a local company. She got caught up in the political instability that was ravaging the island at the time and was forbidden to leave the country with the money she earned from the commercial. Resourcefully, she called a record producer friend and had him bring down a music track so she could record a song in a local studio and, in effect, launder her money and take it out of the country in the form of a master tape. The track brought down was an instrumental one he had produced and recorded but had no lyrics for.”

They go on to report:

“He and True got together, worked on the music, hired some local musicians and the result, once the tape was brought back to New York and remixed, was what would become her #1 disco hit in 1976, “More More More (How Do You Like It?)”.

As adult films entered the world of home video, Andrea’s work was being sold this way on VHS as well:

Andrea stopped making adult films, recorded a few more albums, but none achieved the success of her initial effort.

She said on a VH-1 interview that what ended her music career was developing a goiter on her vocal cords that required surgery.

When she was interviewed for the documentary “Disco Divas: One Hit Wonders” on VH1, she had this to say:

“I want to be remembered as someone who brought people joy with my music.”

One of her last big adult films was this one from 1979:

As you can see, they were playing up her musical stardom in a big way by this time…and look who else is in the film:

Jennifer Welles had an extensive list of credits in adult films, and you can see them all here:

For Andrea, news of her death in 2011 brought back a lot of memories of a talented Singer who also made adult films and left behind a great body of work!

For many of the Actresses who worked in adult film in the 70’s, post XXX-rated life was tough. One who managed to build a bit of a mainstream career was Marilyn Chambers:

She became a superstar for “Behind The Green Door” and was “Insatiable” as well…see all of her most provocative projects here:

However, some had an empowered career – like the legendary Christy Canyon:

Still stunningly beautiful today – see more of her work here:

  1. I only vaguely recall the disco song, and had no idea she was a former porn star. Thanks for the background, John.
    Best wishes, Pete.
