Meet “French Pussycat” Marlene Appelt!
Whenever I find a Cult Movie Queen, I try to give as much biographical information as I can find…so what about those stars who simply vanish?
Marlène Appelt is one of those: an actress known for a few great cult films in the early 70’s, plus some provocative pictorials, then – NOTHING.
So what happened? A Model / Actress with a rich catalog uf work simply drops out of sight!
I have shared some of these Actresses before, and some of you have offered up some great new information – perhaps you can help me figure out what happened to Marlene Appelt!
She was a popular Actress and Model in the 70’s, but there is so little known about her…let’s look at some of her career highlights:
You see, there has to be SOMETHING big happening in your career to be part of a photo shoot like this!
Here’s a look at her career, beginning with an obscure German film from 1971:
The lot is pure exploitation: a sixteen-year-old girl is selected by a matchmaking computer to become the wife of a 35-year-old star photographer.
Appelt wasn’t the star of this film, but the next year she turned up in two very popular “Euro-sleaze” film of the era:
“Le Sex Shop”
This 1972 French sex comedy was directed by Claude Berri, and told the story of bookshop owner in Paris who decides to convert his library into a sex-shop but the only effect is that he turns himself into a sexual obsessive man.
And it gave movie goers a chance to see all of Marlene:
That same year, she was also featured in this European sex shocker:
“Loves Of A French Pussycat”
This 1972 film has a plot designed to give us plenty of eye candy:
Rolf, a sex-advice columnist and a lecher, has affairs with numerous women, but never a permanent relationship. Suzanne, one of his ex-lovers, offers to bet that no woman can get Rolf to propose marriage, a bet her girlfriend Andrea (played by Sybil Danning) eagerly accepts. But there’s a catch: To win the bet, Andrea must get the womanizing Rolf to commit to marriage without first going to bed with him!
As you can see, a shorter title was used to release the film in the US, highlighting the star of the film, Sybil Danning!
Yes, Sybil Danning was in “French Pussycat” as well – what a career she had!
I took at look at her revealing films as well, which you can see by clicking here:
It was a film designed for “modern” tastes, with lots of nudity and sexual situations:
Appelt was also a hugely popular pinup Model – just enter her name on a goole search and you will find a ton of photos – here is a look at some of these provocative covers and photos:
So What Happened To Marlene Applelt?
And here is where the mystery begins: after these three films, there is NO mention of Marlene at all – no films on her resume – she just stopped acting!
