Celebrating A French Natural Wonder!

My “2022 Sex Kitten Countdown” profiles Classic Movie Queens as well as some of the most empowered women working in cinema today – and that’s certainly the case for French Actress Sophie Marceau!

Sophie Marceau is one of the busiest, and most successful, Actresses working today – and she works in all genres of film!

She was born Sophie Danièle Sylvie Maupu in Paris, France – growing up far from studio spotlights.

When she was 14, Sophie was living in the Paris suburb of Gentilly with her father when fame came calling. Friends told her about a Director looking for new faces for a movie called “The Party”.

She auditioned, scored a lead role, and she was on her way to becoming an international star!

She became a big star in France – and a provocative Model as well:

She won France’s “Oscar” – the Cesar Award for Best Feminine Hope for “La Boum 2” in 1983.

She appeared in a wide variety of provocative films, always willing to put it all out there for her art.

She has appeared in films by world famous Directors, and understand he perception of her, and other French women – as she said in an interview:

“And that’s how the world, I think, imagines French women–you know, like very womanly and seducing men and that’s how they like to imagine them.”

Sophie became a popular figure in French newspapers and magazines, and she cemented her reputation with this “wardrobe malfunction” at the Cannes Film Festival, where the entire world’s Press gathers:

Well, talk about getting press attention!

She has had an acclaimed career, and a reputation for bold choices.

She played Princess Isabelle in Mel Gibson’s Oscar-winning Best Picture “Braveheart” in 1995.

And let’s not forget that she was a Bond girl as well!

“The World Is Not Enough”

This 1999 Pierce Brosnan effort wasn’t his best, serviceable at most, but what if they had promoted it with this poster?

Well, that may have done the trick!

Denise Richards was also a “Bond girl” in the film:

She also had a wild career, and you can see all of her highlights by clicking on my story here:

Marceau has more than 40 acting credits to date, and is still one of France’s biggest stars.

I have profiled a number of classic French actresses, like Marlene Appelt:

  2. To publicize the 2009 movie “Ne te retourne pas” (English title “Don’t Look Back”) Sophie Merceau had end nude (well, topless) embrace on a magazine cover (I can’t remember which one) with her co-star Monica Bellucci…. (By the way, the movie was a box office dud by the way.

  4. Sophie Marceau is a gorgeous and hugely talented mega star. Have you done a feature on Monica Vitti,Valerie Kaprisky (also featured in BREATHLESS with Richard Gere), Maruschka Detmers or Bellucci? Loved your piece on Laura Antonelli! Great job!
