Adult Actress Rebecca Brooke Was Also “Naughty” Mary Mendum! Here’s Her Wild Career!

“One Of The Most Beautiful Adult Film Stars Of All Time…”

I found this quote online, an appreciation for an Actress who acted in films of all kinds, including adult.

One of the more interesting aspects of looking at the world of cult cinema is that some of the most well-known Cult Movie Queens moved freely in the 70’s between softcore and hardcore films….and many used various names in various films as well.

My “2022 Sex Kitten Countdown” Has The Career Of Rebecca Brooke – AKA Mary Mendum!

Yes, here is the story of an actress who moved between film generous with two different names.

You see, Actress Rebecca Brooke was born Mary Mendum, growing up in Chicago. She ultimately worked at that town’s Playboy Club before becoming an actress.

She ended up having a career that crossed over between softcore exploitation and drive-in work, and full on adult films of that era…let’s take a look!

Using the name “Rebecca Brooke”, she made her film debut in 1973 with “Grace’s Place”, directed by Chuck Vincent.

She was also an adult magazine model who posed for such magazines as Playboy and Gallery.

Her best-known film was the 1975 drama “The Image”, directed by Radley Metzler, who also directed such erotic classics as “The Lickerish Quartet” and “The Private Afternoons Of Pamela Mann.”

Rebecca was reportedly was Radley’s boyfriend at the time – and is credited as Mary Mendum in the film.

The film is considered one of the best erotic S&M films ever: the story of Jean, who becomes interested in friend Claire’s kinky sex with slave Anne, played by Mendum.

According to wikipedia, there are explicit scenes of fellatio in the film, but Mary did not have sex onscreen.

I found that Mary mostly went by the screen credit of Rebecca Brooke, with a few exceptions.

Here’s a great example of how one film could be sold in multiple ways:

She appeared as Mary “Mendem” in the film “Felicia”, but that film was also known as “The Thousand and One Perversions of Felicia” – and that version had her starring as Rebecca Brooke!

The plot is simple: a young married couple take in their neighbor’s teenage daughter, Felicia, for a few weeks in the summer. It isn’t long before the precocious and seductive Felicia sets her sights on the two of them.

She performs full hardcore sex in the film, while several minutes were also removed so the film could play drive-in theaters as well.

Mary appeared in a number of films directed by Joe Sarno, including “Abigail Lesley is Back in Town”, using the name Rebecca Brooke, and “Laura’s Toys” as well.

One of the many fascinating aspects of Mary’s life is that she was an accomplished cook as well.

Director Sarno recalled that during filming of “Laura’s Toys” on Mjolko Island near Stockholm, Sweden, he and his wife Peggy have fond memories of Mary doubling as production company cook!

Rebecca / Mary is nude in all of these films, with a variety of sexual situations – most are available on special DVD or Blu-ray editions, in a variety of ratings as well.

“Confessions of a Young American Housewife.”

Rebecca showed up in a lot of adult films during this time, some of the most acclaimed being released.

You’ll notice that Jennifer Welles is also in several of these films – she also appeared in films across any number of “ratings”:

You can see more of Jennifer’s work by clicking on my story here:

I discovered Rebecca originally when someone shared this vintage movie poster:

“Naughty School Girls” AKA “The Blazer Girls”

It’s an obvious exploitation plot: a group of private-school seniors want to raise money to buy a new bell for their school, so they hit on the idea of putting themselves on the market.

In the film “Little Girl…Big Tease”, she even is credited as “Rebecca Brooks!”

Mary gave up her film career in 1977, and she was known to be very skilled at cooking, and one biography said she worked at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City after her film career ended!

I only discovered Rebecca because of a very small role she had in another film I profiled recently:

She appeared as Mary in “Cherry Hill High” – barely in the film at all – and I told the story of this film, and the FIVE main Actresses in the movie, most who never acted again!

Click here to find out what happened to the cast:

Mary’s story ultimately has a sad ending: the Actress died in 2012 in Boca Raton Florida – an accidental drowning due to a fall.

A sad end to a fascinating career – and as that reviewer noted, she really WAS one of the most beautiful “adult” Actresses ever…

That said, the 70’s are filled with GREAT Cult Movie Queens, and one of the best is still with us today!

Uschi Digard was in a wide variety of films, and she was up for anything! Read all about her fascinating career by clicking here:

  1. Those ‘Soft-Focus Seventies’ are very nostalgic.

  2. Thanks for this and all the articles. I saw Confessions of American Housewife in a double bill in the cinema in 70s. Had no idea what I was about to see but the enjoyment stays with me. Also had an early 80s (?) VHS called Babyface featuring Desiree West about a male brothel …but can find little reference tomit now so may have an alternative title.

    Anyway. Thanks again.

  3. ‘The Image’ is indeed available in a gorgeous blu-ray and worth chasing about! The production values are so good it feels like a mainstream movie except for you-know-what! Fifty shades looks like a cartoon compared to this classic!
