“The primary reason to have the element of nudity in a film is money.”
With those wise words, let’s celebrate an empowered Actress who understood the business and has achieved iconic status!
Celebrating Monique Parent – A “Skinamax Superstar!”
My “2022 Sex Kitten Countdown” highlights empowered women in cult cinema across all decades, and there was an era, now long gone, when “made for video” and “made for pay cable” erotic films were hugely popular!
Actress Monique Parent understood why they were, and articulated it perfectly when she said this:
“The primary reason to have the element of nudity in a film is money. It helps make almost any film more saleable. Let’s face it, if you are making a movie that isn’t necessarily genre specific (ie: horror, action, comedy) the least expensive thing you can add is naked people.”
She was born Monique Therese Parent in San Luis Obispo California in 1965,, and based on quotes like the one above, has been earned this nickname:
“The Thinking Man’s Sex Symbol.”
In 1990, Monique moved to Los Angeles. She began her professional acting career in 1991, and since then has amassed more than 150 screen credits!
Here is a look at some of her films:
Her first movie was “Secret Games” in 1991 – one of the slew of erotic thrillers being made for late night pay cable and VHS home consumption…it was a market that exploded during the 90’s!
Monique found roles in a number of these films, here are a few:
This has a classic “skinamax” plot: Lindsey and Geena spend some time together by the pool while their husbands play golf.
After talking about their fantasies they begin to enact a few of them for each other. Soon they incorporate Lindsey’s husband Joe into their intimate games.
Of course they did!
While some of these may be great films, they were designed for some late night thrills with gorgeous, empowered women who had no problem baring all…
“Sins Of Desire”
Suspecting foul play, a woman goes undercover to work in a suspicious sex clinic where her sister went to therapy before killing herself – and what a sex clinic it is!
It’s an erotic thriller with a great cast!
Tanya Roberts bares all in the film – she had a great career – see her most provocative roles here:
Here’s another great Cult Movie Queen in the film:
Delia Sheppard is also in the movie, and I discovered her thanks to a terrific Fred Olen Ray film – check it out here:
As for Monique, there were more erotic thrillers to come:
Glori-Anne Gilbert starred in this one, along with Julie K. Smith, so you know its going to be a wild ride!
Gilbert had a great career in cult cinema at this time as well – and Julie did too:
She appeared in more films with Monique, but if you want to see more of her entire career, click here:
Monique continued to bare all in film with titles like “Insatiable Obsession” – and apparently it was:
And there they are again, the trio ended up working on a lot of funny parodies like this:
“The Witches Of Breastwork” is a great example of cult cinema in the 00’s, as the home video market dried up and these parodies were being sold across all sorts of new media:
Parent was having a blast – as she said once in an interview, this was the business for her:
“I love acting and the whole process of making movies! I love 16 hour days and bad food. What can I say. I’m sick.”
Her co-star in these film was also having a blast:
Gilbert appeared in a number of these parodies and you can see more of them here:
They all showed up in this terrific documentary about Director Wynorski:
Check out the very entertaining trailer:
This is a great documentary, a love letter to one person’s passion for filmmaking – and the Actresses he drove crazy in the process!
Monique has a great sense of humor in the film, and about her work in erotic films in general:
Here’s a quote that IMDB.com had from her, discussing the topic of filming love scenes:
“I don’t know how many love scenes I’ve done in my career. I don’t want to think about it. It’s like you start thinking about the number of people you’ve kissed, and the fact that most of them you didn’t want to kiss. I just don’t want to think about it.”
The poster makes it clear what you will get from her and she always delivers, and again, she clearly states why:
“I never really had a hang-up about nudity. I was always the kind of person who would go to a nude beach. For me, nudity was just a very natural thing.”
Monique has had an incredible, non-stop career, and continues to work on films – here is a recent one:
“Cuck” in 2019 is just one of the many projects she has undertaken in the past few years – and she made a bold statement about herself a few years ago as well:
Monique spent many years as a student of healthy eating and has a blog (SortaHealthy) sharing what she has learned.
In 2015, Monique turned 50, and the Actress decided to stop coloring her naturally red hair and allow the natural silver-gray to show. She has a YouTube channel offering makeup and hair tips for women over 40, and she discusses her life and career as a Cult Movie Star as well.
This era of Cult Movie Queen will never be replicated – the films of the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s had a sense of humor and passion that is gone now.
I’ve shared links to a number of other who worked alongside Monique throughout her great career – empowered women who embraced their sensuality and entertained a generation.
Julie Strain was an Icon, and her death was a tragic loss for cult film – see her story here:
Another one of the most popular Actresses of that era was Antonia Dorian:
You can see more her great work with Julie and others as well – just click here:
