Celebrating Cult Movie Queen Luan Peters!
The 70’s was a golden era for cult cinema, and this Actress was in some of England’s best ones!
My “2022 Sex Kitten Countdown” was designed to put a spotlight on some of cult cinema’s greatest stars – including Luan Peters, who I don’t think really got the attention she deserved!
Time to change that!
Luan Peters had a great career as an Actress, Model and Singer as well!
She was born Carol Hirsch on June 18, 1946 in London, England.
She broke through in an unusual way: in 1972, Luan starred in a TV series pilot called “Go Girl”, as a go-go dancer caught up in mysterious stories.
Although the show never went to series, that single episode was later released on home video, first as “Give Me a Ring Sometime” then again, this time called “Passport to Murder.”
Luan Became The “Go-Girl!”
Clearly, Luan popped on camera, because she began to book roles in a series of cult British films in the 70’s:
The Flesh and Blood Show!
I own this 1972 horror film – it tells the story of an anonymous Producer who gathers a group of unemployed actors and actresses to be in a play, rehearsing in an abandoned theatre beside the sea.
First however, Luan and her roommate Judy Matheson have a nude encounter at their apartment to start the film!
It’s a totally gratuitous opener, but it does set the stage for a mysterious killer who has plans to disrupt the play…here is the trailer:
The plot sets the stage for the “gathered teens who all get killed” plot – it’s not a great film but an enjoyable mystery thriller:
Judy Matheson was terrific in it as well..more on her thoughts on the film in a moment.
Peters also appeared in a number of classic Hammer horror films of the 1970s like 1971’s “Lust for a Vampire” and “Twins of Evil” that same year.
She also appeared in the film “Freelance” as well and one called “Not Tonight Darling!”
Luan was more than just an Actress, she was also a very popular pinup Model at the time, appearing in a string of magazines like this:
Peters also appeared in 1974’s “Vampira”, which was known as “Old Dracula” in the US.
Peters had an active TV career as well, in such classics as “Coronation Street” and “Doctor Who.”
But what about this?
Peters was an accomplished singer as well, releasing a lot of music both as a solo Artist and as a member of several groups.
Sadly, Peters passed away at the end of 2017, but has left behind a great body of work!
As I said, Luan appeared in a number of the classic Hammer erotic horror films of the early 70’s:
These films blended old fashioned horror with a modern, more permissive visual style:
Yutte Stensgaard was also in these films, and she made quite an impression – see more of her blood-soaked work here:
Actress Candace Glendenning also appear in “The Flesh And Blood Show” – and she had a fascinating career as well…see it all here:
She was also a Hammer Glamour Queen and so much more – and I interviewed her!
