Celebrating A Cult Movie Icon!
One aspect of my “2022 Sex Kitten Countdown” that I enjoy is jumping around through different decades of cult cinema, and the Actresses who starred at different times in our cinematic history!
Kari Wuhrer was one of the “VHS Superstars” of the 90’s – but so much more!
Let’s take a look at her career.
Kari Samantha Wuhrer was born on April 28, 1967 in Brookfield, Connecticut…as both IMDB.com and wikipedia report, she was an entertainer at an early age, often sneaking away from her home to perform live music as a teenager!
She was destined for stardom.
IMDV.com has a great bio of Keri, which picks up with this:
“After a role in the drama film Fire with Fire (1986), Kari landed a job on MTV as a VJ and was a co-host of the game show Remote Control (1987). Wuhrer snuck out of her family home as a teenager to sing in nightclubs; she was the youngest member of the band Freudian Slip.”

From there, Hollywood came calling, and she appeared in great cult films like these:

“Beastmaster 2: Through The Portal Of Time”
This 1991 sequel to the hit “Beastmaster” gave her a breakthrough role and a chance to do some classic cult action!
She also starred in such hit TV shows as “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Swamp Thing: The TV Series” as well!
In the 90’s Kari had a great string of erotic thrillers like these:
“Sensation”
Kari starred alongside Eric Roberts in this thriller…here is the trailer:
Kari ended up in a string of erotic thrillers for the next decade:

Kari Wuhrer Was “Luscious!”
Here’s a perfect example of the “direct to VHS” craze of that time. A frustrated painter and his girlfriend create erotic art by dousing themselves in paint and making love on canvases!

The film was also known as “Vivid” – one of a string of erotic “VHS” thrillers for the Actress:
She had a nice string of films during the 90’s with titles like “Sex And The Other Man”:

Here are a few more of her films:

She was an Executive Producer of this direct-to-video film, which co-starred Stephen Baldwin:

Wuhrer later described the film this way:
“The pace of making this movie, it was extreme. It was the longest day imaginable”.

She continued to work into the 2000’s before transitioning back to TV and voice work.

One of her biggest mainstream films was this homage to 50’s giant bug horror:

She was signed to a record deal by Rick Rubins of American Recordings and eventually appeared on the small Del-Fi label; her debut album “Shiny” produced the successful single “There’s a Drug”.
She posed semi-nude in Playboy in August 2000 as their Babe of the Month .
Bravo to Kari for a great film and TV career…she reminds me of another Cult Movie Queen of the 90’s:
Joan Severance was a “VHS Superstar” and here’s why:
Joan’s career reminds me of another great Actress from that era:
Shannon Tweed went from Playboy to a string of provocative erotic thrillers a swell – see them all here:
And here’s another Star who made a huge splash in the 90’s:
Denise Richards was a “Bond girl” and in “Wild Things” too – click here to see them all!
Oh, and Denise’s breakthrough role was in “Starship Troopers” – directed by Paul Verhoeven, who also made this 90’s film:
That’s right: he gave Elizabeth Berkley the chance to bare all in “Showgirls”!

I was never keen on Kari Wuhrer, not least when she joined “Sliders” (she’s no Sabrina Lloyd). To be honest I went to see “Anaconda” hoping we’d see her character get eaten by the anaconda (no such luck)…

Another one new to me, John. I haven’t seen any of her films that you featured.
Best wishes, Pete.

Gorgeous lady. Sadly she removed her implants (which destroyed her career) but I understand why she chose to.

I loved Remote Control when I was a teenager. Kari was also in Thinner, a very good Stephen King movie. (sorry, if you mentioned it I must have missed it!)
