Celebrating “Shocktober 2022” With Cult Movie Queen Sandy Johnson!
Here’s the great story of a Playmate turned star of several terrific cult films – but always known for her iconic – yet brief – role in “Halloween!”
I enjoy sharing stories about some of the greatest horror films of all time – not just because of who stars in it, but because of small moments that end up being iconic – and Sandy was the Actress who launched the story of Michael Myers!
Sandy Johnson was born on July 7, 1954 in San Antonio, Texas. She grew up in that town along with four older sisters.
She career took off when she 20 years old, as she was picked as Playboy’s Playmate Of The Month…
Her Playboy pictorial was spectacular:
Sandy was the Playmate of the Month in the June 1974 issue of the magazine…she exuded an innocence and playfulness in her photos…
Sandy ended up appearing in a number of great cult films of that era – including her opening scene in this classic slice of horror!
Sandy achieved her greatest enduring cult cinema popularity as Michael Myers’ ill-fated sister Judith Margaret Myers – the one he sees making out with her boyfriend – and who he brutally murders during the startling opening sequence of John Carpenter’s horror classic “Halloween.”
I love that she is proud of that moment and still makes appearances at conventions! More than just that moment, Johnson had more substantial roles in a series of great drive-in movies, starting with this wild sexploitation gem:
“H.O.T.S.”
This 1979 sex comedy has the wild escapades of the women of H.O.T.S. Sorority. They have wet t-shirt contests and a house-keeping robot!

What a wild film!
So many fun moments in this raucous film, but perhaps this “naked huddle” is the best one!

“Gas Pump Girls”
This 1979 comedy is a perfect “drive-in” movie!
New high school graduates June and her friends take over a dilapidated service station owned by her bed-ridden uncle. They have to perform every trick in the book to compete against the modern station across the street.

These films were fun, nudity-filled romps that seemed to appeal to Johnson – but after a string of great exploitation films, she moved away from acting.
Sandy Johnson’s last movie role to date was “Halloween 2018”, when archival footage was used in the graveyard flashback scene.
As you can see, Johnson has a great sense of humor regarding her “Halloween” role, and before the pandemic was very active on the convention circuit as well:

Many legendary Playmates like Johnson had terrific careers – let’s not forget Jeane Manson:
She was Miss August 1974, and went on to act AND became a very successful singer as well!
