Celebrating “Shocktober 2022” With Cult Horror Queen Rosalba Neri!
My deep dive for “Shocktober 2022” leads me down many unique cinematic paths, and I’m glad it led me to this Cult Movie Queen!
I didn’t know Rosalba Neri, but she had a great film career in a wide range of films, most never seeing the light of day in the US!
Rosalba was born in Italy in 1939, she grew up in her native country, but always had entertainment in her blood.
She won a beauty pageant and attended il Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (The Center for Experimental Cinematography). In 1956, she received an offer to go to Hollywood and attend the Actor’s Studio but didn’t take the offer.
In Italy, she got her first film role at age 15, a story of penguins at a zoo who study the kids who visit…but it wasn’t long before she was doing this!
Rosalba graduated into an era of terrific cult cinema thanks to the legendary Jess Franco!
Rosalba appeared in Jess Franco’s notorious 1969 “women in prison” film “99 Women!”
You know the plot: women in prison must turn to each other for comfort while dealing with a sadistic warden!
In a funny coincidence, Rosalba has 99 screen appearances! Let’s look at some of her most provocative:
“Marquis de Sade’s Justine”
Also 1969, also Jess Franco!

For Neri, she worked in a number of erotic films from Italy, including this one with the great Barbara Bouchet!
“Amuck!”
This 1972 shocker has a terrific cast – and a much more revealing Italian poster as well! The secretary of a writer and his wife investigates the disappearance of her lover – who was her employers’ previous secretary – and finds herself the target of the couple’s erotic desires and a murder plot!
The film includes a fully nude lovemaking scene between Neri and Bouchet!

“The Arena”
This 1974 gem starred Pam Grier and Margaret Markov.
“The Arena” was also known as “Naked Warriors”, and for good reason!
That’s right, in between fighting, they all showered together as well!
In ancient Rome audiences have grown tired of viewing gladiators fight to the death. Something new is needed–women!

Neri worked alongside the great Edwige Fenech, and they shared an intimate moment in the film!

As you can see, Neri was fearless – and had a great run of cult films – including these two that make her a “Shocktober 2022” Queen!
She had a role in “Lady Frankenstein” and was very revealing in “Slaughter Hotel”:
This was also called “Cold Blooded Beast” – A rehabilitation hospital in the Italian countryside which offers treatment for women suffering from various psychological disorders is stalked by a mysterious cloaked killer.
This was a very graphic role for the actress:
One of my favorite films of hers is this 1972 slice of Euro-sleaze:
“The Devil’s Wedding Night!”
Lady Dracula uses Dracula’s ring to lure beautiful girls to her castle, where she murders them so she can bathe in their blood.
Her blood-soaked performance is one for the ages, but by 1975, Neri stopped acting!
Bravo to this great Italian Cult Film Actress for this great collection of cinema!
She reminds me of another Actress of this era:
