Celebrating A Playmate Who Was Also A Gumshoe!
If you aren’t aware, a classic term for a Private Investigator was a “Gumshoe” – at the turn of the 20th century “to gumshoe” meant to sneak around quietly as if wearing gumshoes –the earlier precursors to tennis shoes, which are very quiet!
Why am I telling you this? Because I found a gorgeous Playboy Playmate who actually had that job!
My “2023 Sex Kitten Countdown” has the fascinating life of Denise McConnell!
Denise McConnell was born in Wiesbaden, Germany to a father in the U.S. Air Force and a mother of Puerto Rican descent.
She has a sweet, innocent look, but it hides a fascinating fact: she was Playboy’s ONLYPrivate Investigating Playmate!
A Playmate And A P.I.!
Along with being our busty Playmate of the Month, she earns a living as a REAL licensed Private Investigator.
“It’s a real advantage being a female in this business,” Denise said at the time proudly – she specialized in missing persons, divorce and child custody cases.
And with her looks: “If I want to talk to someone, especially a man, it’s not hard to get his attention.”
She gave a great interview about her unique line of work.
“The people are different, but each case is pretty much the same; you follow somebody, you dig up information, you question people,” explained McConnell. “It can get scary at times, but I don’t think about that.”
These are beautiful photos of this “Gumshoe”, and as Playboy described her at the time:
“Denise McConnell is a private eye, our Miss March 1979 and, above all else, she’s a woman with the quiet strength of a crouching tiger.”
Denise’s “Private Eyeful!”
Because of her unique background, Playboy had some fun with her photo spread.
Her pictorial was titled “Private Eyeful”, and was it ever!
McConnell didn’t go into film or TV after her Playboy success – although, she does seem to have one film credit – but she’s listed on the production crew!
Denise Was In The “Zombie Army!”
While McConnell had a short career in cult film, she left behind this obscurity!
This 1991 film had this tag line:
“The first Zombie combat rock music video!”
According to the information I could find, the movie was filmed in 1989 on a homemade soundstage in Newark, Delaware and at an actual former insane asylum in Pennsylvania!
The movie was released on VHS in 1991 by the cult label Video Outlaw. Out of print for 27 years, it has become a highly coveted tape to VHS collectors and was loved by Bleeding Skull! and was featured on the site’s best films of the year list in 2016.
And it finally got a release in 2019!
Well, since she’s only listed on the crew, you won’t see Denise onscreen, but she did continue to express herself with Playboy.
She was a part of the “Singing Playmates” musical group for awhile, traveling and performing.
Bravo to Denise for her unique story – and as for the “Singing Playmates”, here’s another of the women I profiled who was also part of that group:
Michelle Drake is also remembered for her very memorable scene int he film “Hollywood Knights” – click here to see why!
And how about Playboy’s first ever X-rated Playmate?
Yes, Susan Lynn Kiger was the first Playmate who also appeared in an X-rated film! You can see her entire revealing story by clicking here:
And what about this other “Denise” I profiled:
Denise Richards was a “Bond girl” and so much more!
